A Brief History
The museum is situated on the former site of Shapour High School. In September 1994, the Cultural Spaces Development Company initiated the establishment of the Tehran Cinema Museum. Although the museum’s first phase was launched on Lalehzar Street, it was relocated to its current home in Ferdows Garden in 2002. Over the years, the museum has continued to expand; for example, in 2010, the Hall of Celebrities and the Farhad Room were added. Renowned actor Ezzatollah Entezami served as the museum’s first CEO, followed by other prominent cultural figures.
Architecture and Exhibition Halls
The museum is housed in an elegant historic mansion featuring multiple halls and exhibition spaces. Notable sections include the Pioneers Hall, the Middle Period Hall, and the International Hall, alongside specialized exhibitions dedicated to Armenian cinema, distinguished figures, and dubbing and sound. The complex also includes three cinema theaters with a combined seating capacity of over 350.
One of the building’s most striking architectural features is its ornate stucco work, visible on the columns and throughout the structure. These decorations blend Iranian, Roman, and Greek architectural styles and have undergone restoration in recent years due to natural wear.
Collections and Facilities
The Tehran Cinema Museum holds an impressive collection: more than 25,000 film stills, 1,100 films, 2,500 posters, 3,000 documents, 5,000 periodicals, 8,000 books, and around 300 vintage cinematographic devices. The collection also includes domestic and international awards, film announcements, and a variety of costumes, set designs, and makeup artifacts. Two cafés within the museum provide visitors with spaces to relax and unwind.

Reaching the Cinema Museum of Iran is straightforward via public transportation. Visitors can take Line 1 of the Tehran Metro to Tajrish Station, then walk for 15 minutes to the Ferdows Garden. Taxis and buses are also convenient options; bus users can take the Tajrish–Rah Ahan route and disembark at the Ferdows Garden stop.
