“Taji” Wins Best International Film at Oscar-Qualifying Festival

The short film “Taji”, written and directed by Mehdi Barjian, has won Best International Film at the 38th Foyle Film Festival in Ireland and has been selected as Iran’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards (Oscars) 2027.

The festival jury praised Taji as “a captivating film with moments of humor, expertly building tension to a rich and satisfying conclusion.” As a result, the film will represent Iran in the upcoming Oscars short film category.

The 38th Foyle International Film Festival ran from November 19 to 30, 2025.

Taji tells the story of Taji, the head factory worker, a strong and determined woman who must make a critical decision to safeguard her life amidst overwhelming challenges.
