“Black Rabbit, White Rabbit” Wins Golden Coconut at Hainan Film Festival, China

At the closing ceremony of the Hainan International Film Festival held on Hainan Island, China, the film “Black Rabbit, White Rabbit” was awarded the Golden Coconut for Best Film.

The prestigious award was presented by Marco Müller, renowned artistic director and head of the jury, and Juliette Binoche, internationally acclaimed actress, to Shahram Mokri, the director of the film.

Mokri, who was attending the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia at the time, sent a written acceptance message to Hainan, which was read aloud by Amir Esbati, representing the production team at the ceremony. After receiving the award, Esbati expressed his gratitude and highlighted the jury's recognition as a valuable achievement for the entire production team.

The festival took place over a week, from December 3 to December 9, 2025, with Juliette Binoche serving as both ambassador and artistic director, and Marco Müller as jury president.

“Black Rabbit, White Rabbit” is Shahram Mokri’s latest work, written by Nasim Ahmadpour and Mokri, and produced by Negar Eskandarfar. The film stars Babak Karimi and Hasti Mohammayi and tells the story of a woman who, following an accident, discovers that her surroundings have changed, taking on a mysterious, unconventional atmosphere. The film was shot in Tajikistan and featured actors from both Iran and Tajikistan.

After its screening at the Red Sea Festival, “Black Rabbit, White Rabbit” is scheduled to compete at the Kerala International Film Festival in India.
