The restored version of Bashu, the Little Stranger, directed by Bahram Beyzaie, has won the Best Film Award in the classics section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.
Restored by Roshna Studio with support from the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, the film was presented by mk2Films and screened alongside 18 other restored classics.
Widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of Iranian cinema, the film follows Bashu, a southern boy displaced by the Iran-Iraq war, who ends up in northern Iran. There, finds refuge with a farmer woman named Naii, played by the acclaimed actress Susan Taslimi.
