Italian Mountain Film Festival to Screen Two Iranian Works

Tehran — The 31st edition of Italy’s Della Lessinia Film Festival will feature two films by Iranian filmmakers.

The documentary Berafto, directed by Sepideh Jamshidi, will compete in the festival’s main competition section. The film offers a rarely seen portrait of the hardworking women of the Zagros Mountains. Produced by Ali Jamshidi and Sepideh Jamshidi, Berafto was previously selected for the 56th Visions du Réel International Documentary Film Festival in Switzerland.

The short film The Plain Sings, written and directed by Gita Feyzi and produced by Dyman Zandi, will also screen in a special section of the festival. The story follows a young shepherd girl whose daily routine is disrupted when a wolf attacks her flock, forcing her to make a life-changing decision. The cast includes Darya Kakayi, Afshin Khedri, Sara Ahmadnejad, and Saman Saed Moucheshi. International distribution is handled by Daricheh Cinema.

Founded in 1995, the Della Lessinia festival originally focused on Italy’s Lessini Mountains but later expanded to showcase works about mountain life, history, and traditions from around the world. The 2025 edition runs from 22–31 August (31 Mordad–9 Shahrivar) in Italy.
