Cutting Through Rocks, an Iranian Documentary Wins at Italy’s Giffoni Film Festival

Tehran — The 55th Giffoni Film Festival in Italy concluded with the Griffon Award for Best Documentary going to Cutting Through Rocks, directed by Sara Khaki and Mohammad Reza Eini. The film is a co-production between Iran, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Qatar, Chile, and Canada.

 

Recognised as one of the world’s most prestigious children’s film festivals, this year’s programme awarded the Iranian feature-length documentary Cutting Through Rocks by Sara Khaki and Mohammad Reza Eini as the Best Documentary. 

The festival also featured the short films "Anar" by Mehrdad Jalali and "The School Principal" by Mikail Diani, both from Iran.

The 55th edition of the festival took place from 17 to 26 July 2025 (26 Tir–4 Mordad) in Italy.
